Hydromulching

Hydroseeding & Spray Grass

Bonded Fibre Matrix (BFM)

High-performance hydraulic mulch for steep, long or high-risk slopes where a stronger blanket is needed.

  • Forms a continuous bonded layer with no netting required
  • Suited to batters steeper than 1:2 and long slope lengths
  • Rain-fast within hours of application
  • Often specified as an alternative to jute mesh or blankets

Queensland Transport and Main Roads specification MRTS16 covers hydraulic mulching for road and rail projects.

Hydromulch vs hydroseed

What's the difference?

Both are sprayed slurries. Hydroseeding is mostly seed, fertiliser and a light carrier — good for flat ground with reliable irrigation. Hydromulching adds a substantial wood fibre mulch layer plus tackifier, which locks seed in place, shades the soil and holds moisture.

On any slope, exposed site or batter where the topsoil is at risk of washing, hydromulch is the specification you want. We'll tell you honestly which one your site needs.

Hydromulching service questions

Which is better for my site — hydromulch or hydroseed?

If there is any slope, exposed topsoil or erosion risk, hydromulch is the right choice because the wood fibre layer holds seed and soil in place. Hydroseeding suits flat ground with reliable water.

When should I use bonded fibre matrix instead?

On slopes steeper than about 1:2, on long slope lengths, or where a specification calls for a bonded product. BFM forms a continuous rain-fast blanket without netting or pins.

Do you supply the seed and fertiliser?

Yes. We blend the mix to suit the site, season and any specified species list, and supply seed certificates and product data sheets.

How big does a job need to be?

We work from around 200 square metres up to hectare-scale rehabilitation. Larger areas cost considerably less per square metre.

Do I need to water it afterwards?

Not usually — the mulch layer holds moisture. If you are spraying into a dry spell, light watering for the first two weeks noticeably improves strike.
