TMR MRTS16 (General Landscaping)
Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) Specification MRTS16 General Landscaping covers hydromulch, hydroseeding and seed mixes on TMR works. We supply MRTS16-compliant hydromulching with application records for handover.
TfNSW R178 / R179

Hydromulching questions we get asked most
What is hydromulching?
Hydromulching sprays wood fibre mulch, seed, fertiliser, a tackifier and water on as one slurry. It puts down instant surface protection and a protected seed bed in a single pass, which is why it is used on batters, subdivisions and large lawns.
How much does hydromulching cost?
Price depends on the area, the slope, access and the specification. Large open areas are far cheaper per square metre than small awkward sites. Send us the area and slope and we will return a fixed price, usually within 24 hours.
How long does it take for grass to grow?
In warm weather with reasonable moisture you will normally see germination in 7 to 14 days and useful cover within four to six weeks. Cooler months are slower, so we change the seed mix to suit the season.
What is MRTS16 and do you work to it?
MRTS16 is the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads technical specification covering landscape and revegetation works including hydraulic mulching. We calibrate our application rates to it and supply product data sheets and seed certificates for your records.
Will rain wash the hydromulch away?
Once cured, the tackifier bonds the mulch to the soil surface. On steep or long slopes we use bonded fibre matrix instead, which becomes rain-fast within hours and holds without netting or pins.
Is hydromulch cheaper than turf?
On most areas, yes. Hydromulch is usually a fraction of the cost of laying turf, is far quicker to apply over large or sloping areas, and lets you choose a seed mix suited to the site, including native species. Turf gives instant cover, so it can suit small, high-traffic areas better.
Do you hydromulch residential blocks or only civil sites?
Both. We spray single house blocks and acreage lawns as well as highway batters, mine rehabilitation and subdivision earthworks.
